5 reasons to buy the Sony FDR-X1000V.
1) Data Rate(Better Chip) - 50 to 100 Mbps data rate allows this POV camera to actually be edited in Final Cut Pro with some color grading control or at least match other camera color balances. Anything below 50 Mbps is garbage when mixing into other quality data streams. Tones can be pulled out without drastic banding in solid colors.
2) Optical Stabilization- Allows for a less wide (approx 25mm wide perspective that is relatively smooth). This allows for aerial where most POV's are way, way to wide to see detail above 30 feet in the air.
3) Mechanical Design- Rectangular shape is superior in all situations via thinness in width, not square. Less wind resistance, easier to balance on stabilized gimbals, allows athletes to set camera at eye level without as much visual interference, larger moment arm for gimbal mounts... Does not look like a ridiculous teletubby box on top of your helmet or head! DOH!
4) Audio- Sounds quality more accurate even with waterproof shield on.
5) Slow motion frame rates have an easy work flow in Final Cut Pro. No need to convert and copy/convert data.
Things that are massively lacking in all these cameras:
1) Manual control of shutter speed, and aperture size.
2) Neutral Density Filter
3) Apple Pro Res export
4) Sealed port for external Mic or remote Mic.
5) Canon quality optics would be nice.
6) 20 second high frame rate - 400 fps or more
7) LANC wireless control for long range on and off (2 miles plus)
8) Broadcast Standard live out
