St Martin aka St Maarten
Anguilla
St Barths
Doing not so very much and happy about it for three weeks on three islands in this part of the Caribbean. April 2016.
While we only actively planned to be there at St Maarten carnival time, we got lucky with the ever-changing dates of the Moonsplash reggae festival on the neighbouring island, Anguilla, so we could go see a bit of that, too. Both of those experiences were completely new to us. And we'd do both again, upon chance.
Not staying at any resorts and making most of our meals ourselves and some great ones too, we found St Martin to be relatively inexpensive and well-stocked when it comes to supermarkets, especially on the French side. Anguilla is a different story. But on Anguilla you may find yourself the only person on a picture-perfect beach and that's also worth paying for.
St Martin (actually St Maarten, the Dutch side) has got the famous airport runway, starting on the beach, and there's also loads of other activities, but, as mentioned, doing not so much works as well. What with the many beaches to explore. St Martin is definitely not the place where you have to drive far for the nearest beach. Wherever you are.
