Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp are sweet and garlicky with a slight punch of heat, very very good! Cook this slowly to marry the flavors!
Ingredients:
1 pound large shrimp or prawns
1 cup all purpose flour
2 Tablespoons smoked paprika
1 teaspoon table salt
1/2 teaspoon white sugar
1 and 1/2 sticks butter
1 head of minced fresh garlic or 12 cloves of fresh garlic
1/4 cup mirin (secret ingredient)*
Lemon wedges for serving
The way to cook is slow on medium heat, then up to medium high.
The mirin thickens up almost immediately for a wonderful sauce that sticks to the shrimp.
I like to suck the sauce off the shrimp, then peel and eat.
This is in the top 2 favorite shrimp dishes that I have made, please consider making this.
Yes I do know it is a lot of fat, but just have this once or twice a year.
*Mirin is a Japanese white wine (Sake) that has a lot of sugar in it.
I am not sure if I emphasized in the video that it is important to cook this slowly. The longer cooking time with the shells on protects the shrimp inside, so that the shrimp do not get overcooked. This is messy to eat, but is so finger licking good and you will be happy that you left the shells on. Plus the fact that presentation is much impressive with the shells on.
I recommend cooking this with shrimp shells on. That makes you peel them and you get even more flavor that way. It's a bit messy but much better and fun!
