Watch highlights of The Penguin Random House Student Design Award 2017, which saw students being asked to create original book cover designs for three classic titles - Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird (Adult Fiction Cover Award), Truman Capote's In Cold Blood (Adult Non-Fiction Cover Award) and Sue Townsend's The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 ¾ (Children's Cover Award).
After over 2,100 applications, 30 designs were shortlisted and assessed by guest judges including designer Sarah Hyndman (author of Why Fonts Matter), TV presenter and naturalist Chris Packham (author of Fingers in the Sparkle Jar) and Nadia Shireen (author of The Bumblebear).
Here we speak to two of the three winners (Madalyn Farley from Kingston University, winner of the Adult Fiction Cover Award, and Beth Ewens from Leeds College of Art, winner of the Children's Cover Award) at the prize giving ceremony. Elliot Lee, the winner of the Adult Non-Fiction Cover Award, was unable to attend the event - however, we spoke to his tutor Alex Taylor about his winning entry.
