Some history of the .049 C/L plane, from Andy, pilot and owner.
"The model in the video is about 15 years old and has taught numerous kids (and big kids) to fly C/L. The model was designed specifically to be rugged and easy to build and fly, as well as having a performance envelope well beyond the Cox plastics. It is different to the Dewey Bird as the wing is mid mounted which improves performance and durability. It is designed with an Extra or some other Red Bull aerobat in mind so it looks more modern. It is called 'Trout' as the boys it was designed for were into their fishing.
Quite a few of the models were built during the late 90's by students at a local high school. A number have also built by the local club and others interested in C/L over the years. All have flown well and showed the model was capable of wingovers and loops and inverted flight.
The plan and instructions for the model will be available on the Cowra MAC website shortly. Keep posted and we will let you know when it becomes available."
The little R/C plane is an electric 3 channel conversion of a Pacific Balsa "Hawk" rubber power kit. Inside it has an NTM Propdrive 13-12 2600kV brushless motor with a GWS 5x3 DD prop hot-glued on front. Power comes from a 220mAh 1S lipo and 5A ESC. Two 3.7g servo's and a mini 4 channel 2.4GHz receiver round out the electonics. Performance is marginal at best, (much like the original rubber motor) as the brushless motor was designed for 2S power. The fun of flying this plane is keeping it in the air long enough to run the battery down. A gentle thermal is a great help to keep it up there.
