The Camargue is a large, flat wetland situated in the Rhône delta. Its landscapes are fashioned by human hands. From the biological viewpoint, this is one of the most diverse regions in western Europe, with an exceptional fauna. It is a stopping-off point for birds migrating from northern Europe to Africa, and is France's only nesting site for flamingos. More than half of its natural spaces are protected. The Camargue regional nature park is situated between the two major branches of the Rhône delta. The principal role of the Camargue regional nature park is to reconcile the development of human activities with the conservation of nature.
