The CASPer test, produced by Atlus, is an online computerized screening tool that was initially designed to evaluate the personal and professional characteristics that medical school admissions committees are seeking.
Over time it has evolved for multiple healthcare professions, including but not limited to, nursing, pharmacy, optometry, medical residency, veterinary medicine, among others. The CASPer test is made up of 12 video or word based scenarios. Each scenario is followed by a series of questions, which span roughly 5 minutes. Candidates are timed strictly and are tasked with composing thoughtful responses in a time crunch. For the majority of CASPer writers, this is a novel format to which few have had prior exposure.
Practice is key. Just like the MCAT or any standardized exam, building confidence comes in stages. First the content. Then the practice. And finally, the success.
Although CASPer is generally unpredictable by nature, most scenarios that MedApplications targets for student preparation fall under specific category types:
1) Witnessing unethical behaviour
2) Challenging Integrity
3) Healthcare
4) Resource Ethics
5) Rural Health and related themes
6) Medical Education
7) On the spot thinking.
Developing a mastery of these core themes will be necessary for succeeding in CASPer.
