Here`s a video I`ve recently edited with a combination of footage filmed by me and my farther, revealing sections of the spectacular 42 mile journey on “The Jacobite” steam train, from Fort William to Mallaig, in the West Highlands of Scotland.
After beginning at Fort William we gradually make our way through the urban areas before making our way into the Highlands and see some glorious mountainous sceneries, such as the view crossing the 21 arched Glenfinnan Viaduct (the railway bridge which appears in 3 of the Harry Potter films). Then after a brief stop at Glenfinnan Station (where the other “Jacobite” train comes passing us on its return journey to Fort William) we continue our journey by viewing more glorious mountainous views and the view of a big lake which contains a couple of small islands (one of which is Dumbledore`s final resting place in the last Harry Potter films), before we finally arrive at Mallaig. After completing the journey the video ends with 2 additional shots of “The Jacobite” filmed from the side of the railway (one of it departing from Mallaig station and one of it crossing over the canal at Banavie on its return journey).
NOTE: You`ll notice some dramatic changes in the condition of the weather as certain footages fade into the next (and different steam engines pulling the train). This is because the video conations a combination of footages shot from 3 different visits to the railway. Some were shot this year (these are the shots with bright sunshine), some shot from last year (these are the shots with dull grey skies and raindrops), and the one of "The Jacobite" leaving Mallaig near the end was shot back in 2007.
You`ll even notice some different quality in some footages (some being better quality than others), this is because they were shot by 3 different cameras during the visits. I also apologise for some loud whistling sounds, camera shaking and trees blocking some of the views.
Anyway I hope you`ll all enjoy the video. The Scottish West Highlands is definitely somewhere worth visiting.
