"Note" I didn't capture it, but right before he talked about Dogmeat, Todd said, "At first, he is just called dog but later on, you meet someone who tells you his name." This could possibly mean that you meet the Vault Dweller from Fallout 3 or a certain character from Fallout 3 who knew who Dogmeat is.
