Music industry trailblazer, Troy Carter, famed as Lady Gaga's manager, but also an entrepreneur, venture capitalist and founder of a tech startup, discusses with PR powerhouse David Sutphen how to mitigate risk, what it means to be in "go mode," and what it takes to be a better entrepreneur.
Carter sees himself as on the extreme side of risk taking, sometimes to his detriment. He understands that when you're making it up as you go along, you're going to have a lot of failures -- that it's just part of the game. He looks at his path from manager to having a multidimensional portfolio, and talks about his mission in life to make a much clearer path for the next generation who came from where he came from.
"In order to win big, you have to swing big," says Carter, "but you have to do risk mitigation at the same time." He's seen both sides, having had cars repossessed, having risked bankruptcy, and wondering how he'd make payroll. But all if it made him a better entrepreneur. Carter believes you have to push people to fail, or they'll try to play it too safe, and he sees how really smart executives can still get analysis paralysis.
In this truly compelling conversation, Carter gives us an inside look at what it takes to continually get out there and try, to be always innovating, and to learn as you go.
