So I was having some real problems controlling this plane last time I flew it - often when I tried to turn it, it simply seemed to refuse to turn. See my previous video https://youtu.be/QbZTf2Yi0Is So I took the plane back in to my LHS, where I bought it. They tested it, and said they thought the plane was flying the way it was supposed to, and maybe I should try turning with the rudder rather than the ailerons. I knew for sure that something was basically wrong with the plane, the way it was flying for me previously. I took out subtrim, to try and eliminate possible causes (in case it was confusing the AS3X somehow), and brought the plane out this morning for some more testing. Mostly the plane flew fine in this test, without problems, but the problem with refusing to turn did occur again at one point. So... the problem clearly was intermittent - and intermittent problems are the hardest to diagnose. Anyway, after this morning's flight, as I was getting ready to take the battery out, I noticed that something was rattling loose inside the plane. It was a control arm. Clearly this was the arm that had been controlling the steerable nose wheel. I took the nose wheel off - I had to, when I put the floats on, as the wheel was binding on the front cross-brace of the floats. I took off the little sticker on the top front of the fuselage and put a screwdriver in to undo the screw retaining the nose wheel, as I gathered you were supposed to do, to remove the wheel. After removing the wheel, I put the screw back in. But I guess all I was doing was putting the screw back into the control arm - I wasn't actually fastening it to anything. I'm pretty sure that this was what was causing the problems - that arm was on the end of a rod from the rudder servo, and was probably causing the rudder control to bind unpredictably. Eventually, I guess, the arm fell off the end of the rod (it was probably just hooked on a Z bend) - but then it was still loose inside the plane, potentially getting in the way of things. Anyway, I managed to get the loose arm out through the hole where the battery cable comes through. The rod now has nothing on the end, and goes through a wooden support, so it shouldn't, I believe, now bind on anything. I don't want to take the wing off if I don't have to, as it is held on with tape and glue, and is awkward and messy to take off and re-attach. I'm quite hopeful that the plane should fly ok now. This plane is supposed to work with these floats - it has the attachments for them built in. I'm not quite clear how Horizon expect you to work around the problems with the nose wheel, as it seems to me that it has to be removed when the floats are fitted. And of course, I'm going to have a devil of a time if I want to put the nose wheel back on - I'll certainly have to take the wing off, and even then, it's going to be extremely hard to get that arm back on the end of the control rod, and then onto the top of the wheel leg so it can be screwed in place. Probably I'll just leave the floats on, as they work better than the wheels for operating off grass.
