This video shows the 3D Touch feature of the new iPhone 6s/6s plus in action. 3D Touch measures the force pressing on the screen. This video shows that this features makes it possible to use the iPhone 6s as kitchen scale (but I would not give away your old kitchen scale yet ;-)… Though everything you see in this video is real, do not treat it too seriously, the iPhone screen can not detect all objects. Fingers, some vegetables and fruits do work fine, but other objects do not work at all.
Technical background info:
The demo App was written by me in about 30 minutes. Using the 3D Touch data is very easy. On the iPhone 6s plus the 3D Touch feature can measure weights between about 0 and 400 g and the value range seems to be linear. The force/weight can only be measured when the touch screen detects a touch, so objects made by material like plastic, wood won’t be detected, objects like fingers, fruit, vegetables (mainly consists of water) do work fine. Also the object should touch the screen only on a small spot, flat objects distribute the weight over a wide area, which results in inaccurate measurements.
