I was installing a wall mounted desk and needed a stud-finder. I pulled out my trusty Flir One and was able to quickly locate the studs. I do need to say that this only works on exterior walls, or on walls where the adjacent room is at a different temperature. You could create a temperature difference with A/C or heat if you needed, but most of the time this would be time consuming and impractical. It does work though!
