Remember this is a non-technical explanation and is designed to be understood by even the least tech-savvy. Also keep in mind I recorded this in 2008 (and uploaded in 2009) and WiFi was a *lot* less common then and a cordless phone was the best point of reference for a lot of people, especially less tech-savvy ones.
