The old SysVInit daemon management system has been around forever, and it's worked well. Now though, it's time for something newer. The new "systemd" init system for Linux is much more capable, and brings new benefits to system administrators. It was invented at Red Hat, and has now spread to most other major distros, such as Debian, SUSE, and Ubuntu.
