Diagnosis of a Yamaha RX-V450 home theatre amplifier and a picture of the rather bodged repair job due to the massive WIMA replacement capacitor. Inspired by EEVBlog Dave Jones' repair on the RX-V557, I picked this up on eBay for £20.
In general this Yamaha amplifier is very well built and were I to be in the position of buying a new one, I would probably choose Yamaha. It is simply a design flaw in this instance which has led to failure.
Amplifier was an Xmas gift to my dad; I repaired it for him so he can enjoy it along with the NEC 50" plasma I also repaired.
