My name is Yoshua Bengio and I’m here to present my thoughts regarding the impact of AI on innovation and employment current session going on in this G7 set of meetings.
Progress in artificial intelligence will affect us in all areas of our lives. What is important to understand is that these are fairly general techniques. Computers are programmed to complete certain tasks, based on examples, and this approach can be applied, not only to health care—a sector in which people probably stand to gain the most benefits over the coming years—but also to the fields of law or education.
What is very interesting is that we are now in what can be considered to be a new era. We already have some applications at our fingertips, but entrepreneurs and researchers will be developing new things that we haven’t even thought about yet, and we will all need to reflect on what we want to do with this science, this technology, in the years to come.
