Reporting a crime means you tell the police about something that has happened to you.
There are different ways to report a crime to the police;
• by telephone or mobile phone
• at a police station
• by stopping your local Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) on the street
• by asking someone you trust to talk to the police for you
• by asking Social Services to help you
• by asking the Sensory Team with the Council to help you
• by asking a group or organisation that provides advocacy support like Living Options Devon (Kristy Cooper)
• by going to a Third Party Reporting Centre
• your advocacy support team and local police will be able to tell you where the Third Party Reporting Centre is
It is important to tell the police you will need a British Sign Language Interpreter.
The police must provide a BSL Interpreter for you.
Sometimes it takes a long time to get a BSL Interpreter so try to be patient.
If it is not an urgent matter the police might book an appointment when an Interpreter and a police officer will be available to see you.
